Who We Are

Memorias is the husband and wife team of James Patten and Mariliana Arvelo.

Mariliana graduated from the New England School of Photography in 2002. Since then, her career has growing quickly in the art world as well as the commercial photography world. For her, doing wedding photography is a joy. Every wedding is different and she captures the essence of each one with enthusiasm. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States.

James graduated from the University of Virginia in 1999, and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006. His artwork, which includes photography and other media, has been shown throughout Europe, the United States and South America. James says “what I like about shooting weddings is that I get a chance to meet people from many different walks of life. Also, while it may sound a bit cheesy, it’s great to be reminded periodically of what marriage is all about, and how special it is.”

We started photographing weddings while James was in graduate school as a weekend job to share our passion for photography. As our business has grown, we have been careful not to lose sight of our values: paying personalized attention to each couple, learning what makes their wedding unique, and capturing that essence with beautiful photography. We never want to turn into a “wedding factory” that shoots each wedding the same way.
